He was born in a poor Maratha family living in Karnataka. His real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, famous as Rajni. Before entering the film industry he worked as a bus conductor in Bengalore.

He is the most famous film star with millions of fans in India and across the world.


The Begining

Rajnikanth was born on 12th December 1949, in a Maratha family. He Lived in Karnataka with his parents Ramojirao Gaekwad and Jijabai and two brothers Sathya Narayana Rao and Nageshwara Rao. He lost his mother when he was five years old.

Personel Life

After completing education he worked as a bus conductor in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. After that he attended theatre and joined Madras Film Institute to learn the basics of acting. Rajnikanth married with Latha on February 26, 1981. He is the father of two daughters - Aishwarya and Saundarya. Aishwarya is married to Tamil actor Dhanush and Saundarya is a graphic designer and also works as a film director and producer.

Debut In Films

His first film was a Kannada movie Katha Sangama in 1975. In the beginning of his career Rajnikanth played negative roles in the movies. After doing a number of negative roles he started receiving lead roles in films. Mullum Malarum established him in the Tamil film industry as a leading actor.


His biggest blockbuster films are Chandramukhi (2005), Sivaji (2007), Kuselan(2008) and Robot (2010).

Journey In Bollywood

Rajnikanth made his debut in Hindi Film Industry from Andha Kanoon, released in 1983. He is one of the actors from South film industry who have made his place in Bollywood and achieved the success. His some of the superhit hindi movies include Giraftaar (1985), Uttar Dakshin (1987) Chaalbaaz (1989) and Hum (1991).
