Un prodigious superfood? Probably yes. That’s why your skin will probably love it.

Honey has numerous beneficial properties, so much so that it is one of the most famous grandmother’s remedies for numerous problems. Taking raw honey regularly (maximum one teaspoon once a day) brings various benefits and not only for relieving cough, sore throat (perhaps the word propolis sounds familiar to you), and gastrointestinal tract problems. In fact, honey has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, as well as healing.

In a sentence allegedly uttered by Albert Einstein, the Nobel Prize for Physics declared that “when the bees are extinct, men will be able to survive another four years”. This sentence implies that honey is a substance as prodigious as it is precious, not so much in the strict sense, but for all that its existence means.

To better understand this statement, here is a super summary – not too tedious – which can help to understand the general situation and why the level of concern towards bees is high, so much so that they have a day dedicated to them and May 20th is World Bee Day. And it certainly isn’t safeguarding us from a progressive shortage of honey.

Research conducted by the University of Udine, Bologna, and Naples has highlighted the real problem, namely that what destroys bees is not only harmful to insects but a process that affects what man has in common with bees, namely the immune system. If the bee system is doomed to collapse, that of humans will follow soon after.

THE BENEFITS OF HONEY IN SKINCARE

In France, Professor Bernard Descottes has examined the efficacy of hundreds of honey from all parts of the world, identifying those with the best therapeutic properties, and is called a pioneer (in the West) for his methods of healing with honey bandages on intractable wounds. Using that thyme and honeydew, he has in fact discovered that they allow wounds or burns to heal twice as quickly as a dressing based on pharmaceutical creams. And this alone is enough to understand the extent of its healing power.

Honey is an antioxidant, rich in polyphenols which protect against free radicals and prevent aging; the flavonoids and phenolic compounds also make honey a powerful anti-inflammatory, perfect for burns and finally it is antibacterial, therefore an excellent ally to soothe infections and as a remedy against acne, because it helps reduce sebum production and maintain clean skin.
